Friday Potpourri

Greeters1President Brian opened the meeting, introducing Kevin Jewell for the invocation and pledge to the flag and Fred Barkman, with greetings for visitors. Among the visiting Rotarians were Frank Young and Ron Dunlap, Bellevue Rotary; Bob Wylie, Seattle #4; Jerry Adams, Mercer Island; and Zul Alabhai, a member of the Rotary Club of Nairobi, Kenya. Zul is considering a transfer of his membership to the BBRC.

President Brian praised the Fellowship Committee for their work in planning and executing the first ever Wine & Cheese Party. Over 60 people attended the affair. Thanks to Peter Powell and his committee and to new member Fred Barkman, who shared his expertise on wine.

Ron Healey announced that April 24, a Saturday, is another important work party on the banks of the Sammamish River at Marymoor Park. Preserve Planet Earth Committee is sponsoring the event, and members are urged to sign up, bring family members and neighbors, work boots and tools and be ready to plant new seedlings along the riverbank. This event is a BBRC-sponsored work party.

After this coming Friday’s meeting, the Golf Committee will meet with chairman Dick Brown.

RulesAn investigation has been initiated to discover the wiseguy who put 85 cents in the SAA kitty. First Sergeant Mary Bell has been AWOL, so Steve Goldfarb tried his hand at bringing justice to the membership.

First order of business was to introduce Alex and Kim Rule’s newcomer ... all 8 pounds, 10-ounces of him. Alex agreed to the $25 fine for such a fine job!

Steve zeroed in on visitor Frank Young, who had another $100 bill burning a hole in his pocket. Frank said he’d match whatever the Cub came up with, so Goldfarb warbled the familiar words, “Let’s put a buck on the table,” and with Frank’s fine gift, the total fine proceeds were $204.85! Thanks, Frank and BBRC members!

Andrew Face couldn’t find his badge, so he was wearing Bill Scott’s old badge. A few bucks for that infraction.
