Board of Directors Meet
The monthly meeting of the BBRC board took place on Tuesday morning, March 16. Reports from the various directors were heard, including progress being made on distribution of grants to worthwhile organizations prior to the end of the Rotary year. Kim Shrader has agreed to fill the vacant directorship for International Service, in the wake of Mike Hyodos resignation. Steve Lingenbrink has taken the reins of the the World Community Service Committee and has disbursed $16,500 to the following projects:
Chris Monger has worked hard coordinating the Youth Exchange Program among the four Bellevue Rotary Clubs. The partnership among the clubs seems to be working well. Three of the four clubs host a student each year, which translates the need for three host families during a given year, while all four clubs share in the expense of the program. The current student is Jennifer LeBlanc, from France. The BBRC is not involved in the hosting program this year. In the major gifts category, the Foundation Committee has distributed $28,000, with $10,000 held back for the Clubs initial grant for the Centennial Park project. The Past Presidents Dinner was held March 3 at Glendale Country Club, with 27 people in attendance. Kim Shrader was in charge of planning. All of the Clubs past presidents attended, except Charter President Lou Webb, who lives in Colorado, and the Clubs eighth president, Rick Meadows. That translates to 15 past presidents attending this very special dinner activity. Current membership is at 109, with three members exempt from attendance. After some months of negotiating his status, the board reluctantly accepted the resignation of Craig Groshart. The possibility of a charter night for the new Duvall Club is looming for the end of April. The BBRC is acting as one of the sponsoring clubs, with the event tentatively scheduled for the Glendale Country Club. Currently, there are 17 members of the provisional club, with the requirement of 30 members at chartering time. Community Service Director Scott Sadler led a discussion about RYLA. There were no BBRC-sponsored attendees to this fine conference for young people. The Board talked about doing a better marketing job and expanding the net to capture other qualified students. The Sammamish Scholarship process is under way. Last year they gave $7,000 for college/secondary education scholarships. Community Service project report included:
