During President Shrader’s absence (see Ethiopia story) past president John DeWater will conduct the meeting of October 25, while past president Don Chandler will wield the gavel on November 1 in the meeting at the Bellevue Library.

He who hesitates gets the badge! Bill Knoppi turned in the old red one and now sports his fancy new blue badge. Way to go, Bill!

Don Deasy for his steadfast work on the club’s 5-Year Plan and listening to all the input was awarded the Rotarian-of-the-Month plaque for October. Congratulations, Don!

Jake Luplow, son of Steve, is spearheading a November 9 planting project on the Sammamish River and needs volunteers. All of you who didn’t get a chance to beautify the site last weekend are encouraged to help Jake and his Eagle Scout project.

Don Chandler invited submission of applications for the Club’s Exchange Program. The long-term program is for a full school year, while the summer program is four weeks in length. Contact Don for details.

Scott Sadler gave a heads up for the annual BBRC Giving Basket Project. Families in need have been identified, and members will be asked to respond with the fixin’s for a grand Thanksgiving dinner.

Wendi Fischer and Steve Goldfarb gave a rousing pitch for the Anniversary Dinner on November 15. “It’s either ‘Yes’ or ‘No.’ Better not be ‘NO!’” The Pep Rally urged attendance at this annual event.

John Martinka fingered Steve Lingenbrink for an email he’d sent that changed Cary Kopczynski’s gender. The email talked about “her” committee. It was a $10 typo! But, Steve had purchased the Rotary Insurance Policy, so no money changed hands (at least on this day!)

Wendi Fischer did some traveling and brought back a beautiful club banner from a recent trip to Sweden. Martinka awarded Wendi 25 SAA bucks, which matches Wendi’s PH contribution.

Bill Knoppi got on the carpet and was offered three ways to pay. He decided to buy a RIP. And, Bill gives a RIP, too!

Sergeant Martinka pointed out the Steve Goldfarb is continually the “Man in the News.” He is a weekly candidate for some kind of fine. Just to show his staying power, Goldfarb offered to pay Rourke O’Brien’s fine – $150.00! Wow, what did Rourke do this time?

Bill Krueger, the BBRC’s favorite baseball commentator, visited Friday. Bill is President of Cure Autism Now, an organization seeking to find a cure for Autism. The annual fundraiser was held Saturday at the Four Seasons Spanish Ballroom, to which all members were invited. Bill publicly thanked Senator Slade Gorton for his support and sponsorship of a $200 million bill to help cure autism. “Also, everyone should know that Senator Gorton saved baseball in Seattle.” On the prediction side, Krueger figures that Lou Piniella will be managing the NY Mets and predicts John McLaren will be the new Mariner’s boss.
