x0523WorkPartyFix-Up, Paint-Up Project Helps Friends, Small World

With Ron Healey providing the managerial expertise, a dedicated group of eight Rotarians showed up Saturday morning to do important exterior work on a safe house for young women. This is project of Friends of Youth. Currently, there are six young women who are given shelter from a few days to a few weeks. There are two live-in house mothers.

The work crew of Gauthier, Healey, Holert, Mix, Owens, Kuwahara, Shrader and Waltar painted a storage shed, removed trash, cleaned the roof and skylights, replaced the gutters and completed some power washing. There continues to be projects inside the facility that need to be accomplished. Healey indicated another work party in a few months might be called.

The Small World Syndrome was heavily at work when John Mix let the cat out of the bag that he was an Idahoan. Shelley Schneider, one of the live-in house mothers, asked “What part of Idaho?” Mix replied, “Moscow.” Shelley says, “Hey, I was born and raised in Moscow, went to the U of I, worked for the Moscow Police Department before moving over here 20 years ago!” Well, now if that wasn’t the Small World Syndrome at work. From then on, there was no work from Mix, as he and Shelley traded all kinds of stories.

Still, the project was completed, with work left to do!
