Bob Holert introduced Matt Colville as the January Student of the Month from Sammamish High School. Matt was accompanied by his mother, Sue. Matt is a senior, with a 3.9 plus GPA. He is currently taking advanced calculus and chemistry. He has competed on the school’s water polo team and the swim team. His community service has focused on a national program called Linkcrew, which is a mentoring program at SHS. “I’ve been involved in Linkcrew leadership. My present assignment is as Linkcrew commissioner, which allows me to attend regional training sessions for the program. At our school, each of the seniors involved in the program have 10 to 12 freshmen who we mentor. We kind of show them the ropes. Our leadership works on problems at school while we learn about leadership and team building.”

Matt is a member of the National Honor Society, has taken several Advanced Placement classes, and spends time tutoring students. His plans are to enroll at either the University of Redlands or Claremont-McKenna, both in Southern California. He plans to enter the field of economics and marketing, continuing with graduate school, earning an MBA, and then enter the workforce. He also plans to swim competitively for his college team.
