ADMIN CORNER

It’s wrap-up time for the BBRC’s Rotary Foundation Annual Giving campaign. Just a few members left to give the club 100% participation in this year’s effort. If you haven’t made your commitment, please contact Don Chandler (Ph 425-974-6218) immediately so your gift can be sent to RI in time for credit in this Rotary Year. Thank you!

APB out for Rotarian who left a packet of scholarship applications at the Press Table. No reward offered. No questions asked. Email Club Administrator or call 360-863-0861

Mini-Assembly: Community Service

x0516SadlerScott Sadler serves as Director of Community Service on the BBRC Board. It was his turn to conduct a “Mini Club Assembly,” where a particularly arm of Rotary is discussed in detail.

x0526TomSmithTom Smith represented Chairman Nick Paget for the Youth Services Committee. “We’ve touched an awful lot of people over the years,” said Tom. “Our scholarship funds have sent many students to RYLA, we provide day planners to all students and faculty at Sammamish; a grant of $1500 to the YMCA for projects on the Eastside; Student of the Month award program; and awarding scholarships to deserving students. Currently, we’re working toward the selection of our scholarship recipients. We have a budget of $8100 for Sammamish High students going on to college. We are interviewing potential recipients over the next few weeks. This is one of the most rewarding areas that our club sponsors--awarding scholarships to students going on to college.”

x0516ChipEricksonChip Erickson represented Preserve Planet Earth Committee. He and Ron Healey are co-chairs. The group sponsors a tree planting exercise twice a year; and the latest project is working with the state on the Adopt-a-Highway program on 405. Each quarter, a team will descend on that section of highway to clean it up. Next clean-up is in July. PPE also sponsors the ReCell program, which accepts “used” cell phones that are refurbished for use by families of domestic violence. The committee recently gave $2500 to Earth Corps which will result in the planting of dozens of trees and shrubs along threatened waterways.

Lynn Gauthier is chair of the Community Service Committee and is perhaps one of the busiest groups for activities. Community Service sponsored a painting party at EADS last month; the annual house repair project is coming up this Saturday; and the group has supported families during the holidays with meals, specifically working with the YMCA, Friends of Youth, Hopelink, Treehouse, The Giving Tree, Thanksgiving and Christmas Baskets, and Rotary First Harvest. It’s been a great year for Community Service.
