The Friday Program: Jim Gordon gave what he called a real General introduction when he presented Major General James M. Jim Collins to the BBRC audience. The General is Chief of Staff of I Corps and serves as Deputy Commander at Fort Lewis. General Collins related hed attended ROTC in college at Arkansas-Fayetteville and served in the Signal Corps and Military Police. He is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College and the Army War College. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Tacoma, #8. After an initial term of service which brought him to the Northwest and Fort Lewis, General Collins worked 22 years for Weyerhaeuser and spent some time in Bellevue. He raised his family in the Tacoma area and hes back in the active Army now. We are at war and we are transforming, said the General. Most organizations would have difficulty taking on two major initiatives at the same time. World conditions lead the Army to take on both of these initiatives today. In leading the army into the future, there are two missions for Fort Lewis. First, theres I Corps, a major Army organization which is on order to deploy in the Pacific Area of Responsibility if the need arises. Second, theres Fort Lewis, one of the major training bases for the United States Army. Fort Lewis is asked to train and equip all kinds of organizations using a power projection platform for war fighters. We are also transforming the well-being of our individual soldiers and their families with emphasis on a connection to the community. READ MORE The 10th annual BBRC Valentine Dinner came off without a hitch Saturday night as 80 members and spouses gathered to pay homage to Cupid. Hosts for the affair were Dick and Judy Brown, Jenny and Tom Andrews, Hans and Catherine Giner, Sharon and Gordy Edberg, Shelley and Phil Noble, Paul and Susan Martin, Chuck and Judy Barnes, John and Jan Martinka and Jan and Richard Nestler. General Cupid Chairman Bob Moloney was red-faced as he tried to explain how excited he was that this latest activity drew such a crowd. "Next year, we're gonna have 100 guests, and this will get so big that the whole world will be clambering to find out we do it, and we'll charge a huge counseling fee and make so much money that we won't have to pay any dues or fines or meal tickets, to the point that we can start our own international organization, which will put the rest of the globe on notice that we know how to do things here in Bellevue!" Yeah, right. But, let's face it, when Bob Moloney sets his mind to a project and he has Esther mastermind it, there's no question it will be a success! Congrats to the Moloneys, and we hope everyone had a great time. Thought for the week Courage is the ladder on which all the other virtues mount.
