FAMILY OF ROTARY

Friday’s meeting opened on a somber note, when Dick Brown requested the microphone from Acting President Steve Goldfarb. Dick reported that he was made aware late this week that Don Deasy had been receiving chemotherapy for a “Level 4” cancer. Dick visited Don and found him to be his usual, positive self. His treatment is over at this time and he’s back at home, where Dick said he’d enjoy hearing from BBRC members.

It didn’t take Carlos Aragon long to become acclimated to the BBRC ritual. He was selected to deliver an invocation and lead the Pledge to the Flag.

GreetersRuben Ladlad welcomed five visiting Rotarians: Frank Young, James Whitfield and Rob McKenna, Bellevue Noon; Dale Watkins, University; and Jim Trombold, Mercer Island.

When Frank Young rose to introduce himself, several members rose in order to claim that they were Frank Young, each waving a $100 bill. “I’m Frank Young and I’ve got a hundred bucks!” Playing the foil were Jay Powers, Shelley Noble and Chuck Kimbrough, much to the delight of Mr. Young and the other members assembled.

Acting Prez Goldfarb recognized two members returning to their stations, Steve Lingenbrink (bad back) and John Mix (runny nose), as well as Rourke O’Brien, who looked spiffy in his new suit.

Ron Healey thanked all those who worked on the Preserve Planet Earth project at Marymoor Park last Saturday. “We got ahead of schedule and finished early. A good job by any measure,” said Ron. He reminded members of another hands-on project set for Saturday, May 15, at a duplex nearby that the club has painted and fixed up before. “We’ll do it again beginning at 8:00 a.m. that day, and I hope all of you will signup for this community service project.”
