The Brightwater Education Project

PeterHoltEarth Day, 2004 is an appropriate time to show our support for the environment, said Alex. He was proud to introduce several people who “live and breathe environmental stewardship. Peter Holt, City of Redmond Parks Department, gave a quick synopsis of the project that has involved the BBRC for ten years. “The Sammamish River is part of the Lake Washington watershed. It used to meander through the valley between Redmond and Woodinville, a 28-mile wiggly waterway. Then, it was straightened out and that project took a toll of trees and shrubs that grew along its banks. This damaged the journey of the Chinook, Coho and Sockeye salmon, heading upstream to spawn. By planting trees and shrubs, the water is cooled and made more pleasant for the spawning fish. We thank you for participating in our Sammamish Re-Leaf project and maintaining your investment in the river.”

Eight educators formed a presenter’s group to make presentations about the environment and Brightwater. Brightwater is the massive King County waste treatment project that is proposed to be situated just north of Woodinville in Snohomish County. READ MORE

Pain & Suffering

An email from Ernie Hayden stated: “Let’s help our buddy, Mr. Lingenbrink!”

From his convalescing bed at home last week, Steve wrote:

I was lifting a cooler on Easter and my back gave out. I hurt, so I went to the doctor, and he prescribed to usual drugs and bed rest.

I found out Thursday that I injured my back worse than I thought. I haven't been to the office this week and was not feeling better. I had an MRI done Thursday and I have a badly herniated disk at L4-L5, 7 mm intrusion into the spinal cord. No wonder I am in pain!

Anyway, we are going to try chiropractic, physical therapy and drugs before anything more drastic. But no standing or walking for more than 20 minutes, no sitting for more than 15, no lifting, no DRIVING and no work!

I am bummed, BUT I know I am going to beat this thing.

Prayer would be appreciated. Thanks!”

The BBRC Acronyms

You can’t tell the players without a program and you can’t speak “BBRC-ese” without knowing the acronyms thrown about with wild abandon each week. The following is an article printed in Reveille, Volume 11, No. 2 on July 14, 1998.

Over the years, the Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club (BBRC) has been forced to use a myriad of acronyms to conserve space (MOATCP). Here is a partial glossary of terms (GOT) which all members should memorize. Thought For the Week

Nothing living should ever be treated with contempt. Whatever it is that lives — a man, a tree or a bird — should be touched gently, because the time is short. Civilization is another work for respect for life.
