Hunter the Winning Ticket
One of the most familiar faces in the community brought her infectious laugh and big smile to the BBRC Friday. Washington State Patrol Sergeant Monica Hunter began her career in law enforcement in 1996, when she sought a job that would keep her closer to raising her son. I was a single mom and had early careers in cosmetology and as a flight attendant. I heard about the WSP looking for new recruits, took the exam and ranked number one! Now, this is my job and I love it! Monica said she loves coming to meetings and, in fact, revealed she may be planning to join Rotary. Rourke, representing Membership Recruitment, spent some quality time with Monica after the meeting. Our work is ramping up. So many cold cases are being solved. Support for victims of crime is taking a lot of the time of law enforcement. The WSPs Aggressive Drivers campaign is focusing on the errant driver. In the last three months, over 1000 aggressive drivers have been ticketed in King County alone. Its good pickins, as we say. Monicas job is Public Information. In addition to a morning stint as the traffic reporter on KOMO-TV4, Monica spends a lot of time educating drivers. We have a huge problem with our drivers. When you think of the alternatives, its not horrible to get a ticket, but its horrible to get in a crash or to cause one. People are more aggressive and less sensitive on the roads today. Road rage is a problem. Unsafe lane changes cause many of our problems ... we all have blind spots. As drivers and citizens, were all very busy ... driving isnt personal. But not concentrating on the road and following good driving etiquette is a recipe for trouble. I don't always read the Reveille, but it's always a fun and gratifying read when I do. Still feel quite "connected" with the BBRC Club ... wish I could join you for the Retreat. Have a great Rotary year ahead! Stewart District Conference Join District 5030's train to Portland for fun, fellowship, comfort and NO I-5 headaches! Bob Moloney and Sadru Kabani are helping to orchestrate this affair, which will open with dinner at the Chinese Mandarin Restaurant, within walking distance to the theater. Theater tickets are $36, or $32.40 for seniors. The restaurant has room for up to 30 people for dinner. Talk it over with your partners. Chairman Peter Powell is looking for 15 couples who want to have a Night at the Village Theater. You can tell him on Friday. Thought for the Week In law, nothing is certain but the expense.

To be tabulated in this Rotary year, weve got to beat the deadline of June 30. 2) Every six months, Rotary International asks clubs to submit a Semi-Annual Report. Members of record on June 30 are counted in this twice yearly survey. The report also determines the clubs financial support of RI, which runs near $3000 semi-annually. |
