Cyril Faulkner became the newest BBRC member Friday when he accepted the pin and badge of a Rotarian. Sponsor Phil Salvatori introduced Cyril to the Club, saying Cyril epitomizes Rotary’s motto “Service above self.” Phil got to know Cyril while they both worked on the Wheelchair Project. Cyril was born in Sierra Leone, and when the doors closed to get the wheelchairs to an orphanage in Russia, Cyril helped get our wheelchairs to Sierra Leone. “During the time I worked with Cyril, I realized what a great person he is,” said Phil. Cyril has traveled around the world and celebrates 21 years of marriage to Vera. They have one child and the family lives in Bellevue.
Cyril is a management accountant and business process manager for Sun Gro Horticulture Distribution Company in Bellevue, a job he’s held since 1991. His Rotary classification is “Horticulture Distribution.” Cyril is a choir member of the Evangel Temple church choir in Bellevue, loves cooking, reading, listening to gospel music and jazz, and enjoys golf, cycling, and swimming.
Cyril met Vera in her native Gambia and was having problems convincing her family that he was serious about her hand. Cyril called is mother in Sierra Leone and told her to fly to Gambia to help him convince his future wife’s family that he’d never been married before! It worked!
After accepting all the trappings of a new member, Cyril was greeted with a standing ovation befitting the BBRC’s newest member.
