Scott Sadler, Community Service Committee Chairperson, introduced Janice Gaines,
representing the Diversity Arts Project (DAP) headquartered in Seattle. This unique organization combines the energy and enthusiasm of children and youth with the dynamics of dance, music, drama, and the visual arts to achieve social healing. Their message has been taken to many venues, and each performance has resulted in changed lives for young people.
Founded in 1992, DAP now directs two programs: Diversity Dance & Theater and Youthquake. A third program, to be called Virtues and
Character, is currently in the planning stages and will use the arts to help children learn the value of virtues and character building.
Janice pitched DAP’s next public activity, the Cultural Jam Kick-Off (a Concert and Cultural Sock Hop), starring the Diversity Dance
& Theater group, slated for the Bellevue Family YMCA, 14230 Bel-Red Road, from 7:30-11:30 p.m., Friday, April 6. Tickets are $25.00 per family, or $10 for individuals. This is a fundraiser
with live dance music by Show Brazil. Get more information by calling (425) 746-9900.
Then on Saturday, April 14, a FREE
Teen Event will take place at the Garfield Teen Life Center in Seattle. The program is presented by YMCA of Greater Seattle and the Power of Hope Teen Empowerment through the Arts. The day-long Culture Jam opens at 10:00 a.m. and goes until 7:00 p.m. Young people will be able to see and participate in the visual arts, music, dance, theater, drumming, and writing workshops.
