 Raffle Wind-Up

The three presidential candidates made their final appearances before the electorate Friday, as final voting was conducted. Raffle chairman Steve Lingenbrink said, “Absentee votes would be counted through Monday.” Friday’s last-minute rush to the polling place netted at least $34,000, to bring the raffle take to near $100,000.

What’s interesting is the closeness of the race between the three parties. The Whigs, led by Jim Zidar, have a 1.2% lead over their buddies, the Tories and candidate Dick Brown. This may well be the margin in another election being held on November 7. The Darkside Party, led by John DeWater, was hampered by arriving late to the dance and having one less state in their convention. The Whigs had 37,399 votes to the Tories’ 36,239. Darkside had 23,172. This totals 96,810, but there were indications that absentee ballots would swell the final total.

The State of Confidence, chaired by Dick Tschetter, made a big push at the end to take over the top vote-getting with 9,944. A trickle of absentee votes may put them over 10,000.

As far as individual vote-getters, Steve Goldfarb broke existing modern-day electoral records with 4,000 votes for County Jeweler. Other high rollers included Steve Lingenbrink, 2,502 for City Shark; Mary Truesdell, 2,000 for County Flautist; Norm Johnson, 2,486 for Regional Bar Code Magnet; Joseph Brazen, 2,230 for State Land Commissioner; Colin Radford, 2,000 for Shoreline Management Manager; and Bob McNulty , 2,150 for Coldstream Salmon Restoration Project Manager. This election sets new records for the seven candidates receiving over 2,000 votes in their campaigns.

For the Raffle Wind-Up, all tickets and money must be turned in to Lingenbrink. He announced, “We need 15-20 Rotarians to come to Wayne McCaulley's Office on November 15th, at 6:00 p.m., to help separate the raffle tickets for the big drawing on the 17th. Please email either Steve Goldfarb or Steve Lingenbrink to confirm your attendance to help separate the tickets. Wayne's office is in the Bank of California Building on N.E. 8th Street (10900 N.E. 8th Street, Suite 613). Pizza and refreshments will be served. Thanks in advance for helping!
