 Sammamish River Gets a Facelift

Fifteen Rotarians, spouses, and family members participated in the annual Preserve Planet Earth Planting Party on the Sammamish Slough. The project centered on a section at Marymoor Park.

Chairman Tim Moriarty reported that ten students from Eastside Catholic High School joined the BBRC, along with their exchange student. The workforce made quick work of the bank designated for the BBRC, and they moved to fill in an area overlooked by last week’s planting group. The river banks were spotted with alders, willows, and salmon berry bushes, along with other native plants. There was no accurate count of the number of trees/shrubs planted, but they’re all in the ground, so who’s counting?

Many other groups also joined in the project. The Slough was crawling with several hundred people, who finished the job in about three hours. All told, this year’s planting covered nearly a quarter-mile. Tim called the work “impressive … coupled with our $4,000 contribution to help King County purchase many of the trees planted, it was a winning day for Rotarians!”

Roll call of BBRC members participating included Steve Peters, Jim Zidar, Tim Moriarty, Chris Monger, Chuck Barnes, Mary Truesdell, Cary Kopczynski, John DeWater, Jim Young, Chuck Kimbrough, Ron Healey, Brian Evison, Jim Kindsvater, and Wally Mahoney. Wally and Jim took dozens of great pictures to chronicle the event. See for yourself!
