District Governor’s Annual Visit

District Governor John Nelson paid his official visit to the BBRC on Friday, one day after meeting with the Club’s Board of Directors to learn about new initiatives the Club is taking. A 14-year veteran of the Mercer Island Rotary Club, its Past President, a former member of the Mercer Island City Council, the Island’s “Citizen of the Year” in 1991, and married to Jane for 44 years, Nelson brings an easy-going excitement to his term as Governor. The annual Ugly Tie Contest, skillfully emceed by John Martinka, became a Creative Tie Celebration when members gathered to applaud the winner of the fierce competition. More

Sammamish Lake Gets A Facelift

Fifteen Rotarians, spouses, and family members participated in the annual Preserve Planet Earth Planting Party on the Sammamish Slough. The project centered on a section at Marymoor Park. MORE

 

This week’s meeting features retiring Washington Supreme Court Justice Phil Talmadge assessing the implications of the 2000 election on the US Supreme Court. Guests are welcome. Meeting begins at 7:00 a.m. Remember to park in the upper lot.

THANKSGIVING BASKETS
Community Service Chairperson Scott Sadler announced the annual Giving Baskets project, where the membership contributes food, which goes to make up baskets that are then given to needy Eastside families at Thanksgiving. MORE

BICYCLES FOR MEXICO
Saturday, November 4, the intrepid BBRC Bicycles for Kids project will once again rise up, with members preparing bikes for a trip south to Mexico. Project Chairperson Brian Heimbigner asks that members meet at Eastside Recovery Center, 1412 140th Place N.E., at 9:00 a.m., to prepare 80 bicycles for transport to Mexico City. MORE
