A Vocational Service Mini-Assembly

x0606ButyLed by Director of Vocational Service Carlene Buty, another mini-assembly tackled the job of reporting on activities of this important part of Rotary to the membership. Carlene said, “Vocational Service is the first principle of Rotary, giving the organization a foundation which brings together different backgrounds, cultures and work —something that makes Rotary unique in the world of community service. Steve Peters and Jeanne Thorsen co-chaired the Vocational Service Committee; Doug Cameron, chaired the Vocational Awareness Committee; and John Sheeran and Jane Kuechle co-chaired the Career Development Committee.

Steve Peters reported that the principal activity of the committee this year was to conduct training sessions for people honing their job interview techniques. This project has gone on for several years at Hopelink.

Doug Cameron said his Awareness Committee was in charge of classification talks, and sponsoring programs focusing on high ethical standards in the business place. The committee also provided laminated Rotary Four-Way Test cards and sponsored a recent ethics program featuring changes being made in how the Boeing Company does business.

John Sheeran said the career development programs included plans for job shadowing and BBRC participation in career fairs. The club has worked on programs with Bellevue Christian, Eastside Catholic, and Sammamish High School.
