THIS WEEK

"Fear of Public Speaking," Dr. Joyannah Lonnes, specializing in teaching people how to overcome fear of public speaking with a technique called Emotional Fear Technique. If your palms sweat, knees shake, and ythroat dries up when you’re in front of a crowd, you’ll be entertained and enlightened by Dr. Lonnes.

ADMIN CORNER

Fourth Quarter has only three meetings remaining. The Rotary Year will close with the annual Rotating the Wheels Dinner at the Mercer Island Beach Club, the evening of June 24. The next Friday is July 1, 2005, the first day of the new Lingenbrink regime. On that date, another quarterly billing will go out. Yes, time does march on, and somehow even more quickly than before!

If your work life has changed in any way, and you’d like a change in your classification, please contact the Club Administrator.

Friday Potpourri

x0606GreetersMoving into his final month as president of the BBRC, Norm Johnson enthusiastically greeted a near full-house on a cloudy spring morning. He introduced Mike Ralph, who gave the invocation and led the pledge to the flag. Greg Hendershott greeted several visiting Rotarians and numerous guests of Rotarians.

Ellie Mazzarella, newly appointed District 5030 Administrator was introduced, saying her office on Mercer Island (shared with Rotary First Harvest) is available for assistance on “anything Rotary.” You can call Ellie at (206)354-7238 or email her at ellie@rotary5030.org.

x0606KuwaharaSign-ups for the Rotating the Wheels Annual Dinner had previously drawn only a 15% response, which, according to Fellowship Chair Sayoko Kuwahara, is “NOT acceptable. Go to website and sign up.” The club did exactly that with over 40% of the members now having made contact with the sign-up form. There’s still 60% left to go ... get the information to Sayoko so she can make the final head count.

Howard Johnson announced that Saturday, June 11, is the date for the monthly Rotary First Harvest work party. Work begins at 9:00 a.m. at Pier 91. Call Howard for directions and possible carpooling.

A joint Board meeting of the BBRC is slated for Tuesday, June 14, at 4:00 p.m. Members of the current board and new board will get together to mark the end of Norm Johnson's administration and the arrival of Steve Lingenbrink's. This event will be held at Glendale Country Club. Also invited are past presidents.

x0606SAAJenny Andrews, beloved jurist, got off the bench long enough to bring joy and rapture to her audience. If you recall, Jenny was quite critical of Kelly Nolan for not providing those famous Salvation Army donuts at Jenny’s place of business. Could it be because Andrews recently moved the company to another area in Bellevue? No matter. Kelly got the message, and awaiting Jenny early one morning was a box of those famous doughnuts. Looks like the Squeaky Sergeant’s Wheel got the Grease.

In this day and age of revealing your sources, the BBRC Deep Throat turned out to be Bob Vallat, who was honored by Jenny for being her best “Rat on the Rotarian. Bob provided me with my best material and I’d like to thank him.” For instance, here’s a piece from the Puget Sound Business Journal about Jeff Maxwell ... something to do with $100,000 and billing rates per hour. No fines assessed, because John Martinka left the room shortly before the ax fell. John escaped till another day.

Now, the question is, who will become the new Deep Throat? Chris Ballard will need his sources, too. Open wide and say, “Ahhhhh.”
