ADMIN CORNER

Fourth Quarter has only three meetings remaining. The Rotary Year will close with the annual Rotating the Wheels Dinner at the Mercer Island Beach Club, the evening of June 24. The next Friday is July 1, 2005, the first day of the new Lingenbrink regime. On that date, another quarterly billing will go out. Yes, time does march on, and somehow even more quickly than before!

If your work life has changed in any way, and you’d like a change in your classification, please contact the Club Administrator.

WCS Makes Final Grant

The last of the funds allocated to World Community Service Committee was committed to a Children’s Hospice in St. Petersburg, Russia. The $1,000 will go for “pain medicine and supplies” for the hospice. The grant is coordinated through a project of the Bellevue First Presbyterian Church. The Bellevue church has a relationship with the St. Petersburg-Seattle Sister Churches Board. The Rotary Club of St. Petersburg is also reported to be involved and tracking of the use of the funds and progress of the Hospice programs will be made.

The Children’s Hospice has also received support from clubs in Rotary District 5050, which covers parts of Northwest Washington state and southern British Columbia. The Fidalgo Island Rotary Club of Anacortes has taken the lead in support, having contributed $5,000; the Anacortes Rotary Club plans to give $3,000; LaConner has agreed to participate; and the Snohomish Rotary Club has shown interest. The Rotary Club in St. Petersburg also agreed to participate after a presentation from one of the board members of the Seattle Sisters Churches Board.

Donations have been used very efficiently, according to Paul Hirz of the Bellevue church. Doctors are paid $500 a month, nurses $300 and painkillers cost from $10 to $70 per day. In addition to the highly qualified staff, the Hospice has over 100 volunteers. In just two years, the Hospice has made amazing progress with services and professional organization.
