ADMIN CORNER

Can you believe it? Rotary Year 2004-2005 is about history. With a steady plugging ahead each day, Norm Johnson is about to become our Immediate Past President. Maybe it’s because the seasons were all screwed up. After all, the climatologists did say we were in for some kind of an El Nino. Winter came early for a week in late November, followed by a long spring beginning in mid-December through January, followed by a dry spell in February and one week of skiing in March-April and a heat wave in May. No wonder it went fast!

This also means that the business end of Rotary marks the end of the year, too. If your account has a balance, we’d appreciate a timely return. Treasurer Burnett wants to retire with all the money in the bank where it belongs. Thanks!

The Rotary Club of Duvall Invasion!

x0530Duvallclub2Led by their smiling President Danny Edwards, the Duvall Rotary Club invaded the Glendale confines to energize the BBRC meeting Friday. Eighteen RC Duvall members made the special early morning reverse commute to bring smiling faces and laughter to the meeting.

A top secret movement by the troops from Duvall was blown somewhat, as they were the first people to arrive at Friday’s meeting, save for Peter Powell, who had no idea who these happy people were! By the time they paid for breakfast and introduced themselves around, it was breakfast time.

One of the reasons for the visit was to promote the annual Duvall Days celebration. The RC Duvall has taken a prominent role in sponsoring the event. On Saturday, June 4, the Kiddies Parade begins at 10:30 am, followed by the Grand Parade at 11:00. Arts and Crafts, food booths and other displays will take place at McCormick Park, along the banks of the Snoqualmie River from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm. Music by various groups will entertain festival goers until the fireworks show at 10:00 pm. The next day, the Annual Duvall Firemen’s Pancake Breakfast takes place at the firehouse, 7:00 am to 1:00 pm.

As for the Rotary Club of Duvall, it is currently enjoying a growth spurt, with its membership count at 35. President Danny reports that another half-dozen applicants are interested in membership. At the recent District Assembly, the club was cited for having the largest per-capita attendance at the Assembly. Looks like they’ve kept up their per-capita antics with the visit to the BBRC Friday.

The BBRC, primarily with work by Brian Evison, Kim Shrader and Dick Brown, were the prime sponsors of the new club in Duvall. It looks like the club is firmly planted and is growing to become a player in the affairs of the City of Duvall. Congratulations to all who had a part in its chartering and to those who carry its membership forward.
