“Exceeding Customer Expectations,” Brad Worthley, an internationally-acclaimed keynote speaker on customer service and leadership will tell all. He is president of Brad Worthley International, Inc. Bring a guest and find out how to exceed customer expectations, Friday at Glendale Country Club, 7:00 a.m.

ADMIN CORNER

Forty-two members have submitted Directory updates through the new form available in the Member’s Only section on our website. If you want your data listed, get to the form! REMEMBER, when entering the data, USE ONLY THE TAB KEY TO MOVE AROUND THE FORM. Kindly hit the SUBMIT button only ONCE. Just because the button doesn’t talk back to you is no reason to hit it more than once. Each hit results in another form sent to the Club Administrator. If the completed forms had a more colorful pattern, I would save them to paper the bathroom. But, I don’t need all these extra forms. Thanks for sharing!

As for the other 70+ members, you’ve got some work to do. GO TO THE WEBSITE, to MEMBER’S ONLY, CLICK to open, click SUBMIT to offer your ID/PW and the click UPDATE MY INFO. After you’re finished entering your data, click SUBMIT button ONCE! From here on, any updates to the directory will be controlled by YOU! You are now a Certified Junior Web Grunt. Don’t lose your place in line.

The Friday Program:
Radiation & Your Morning Cup of Coffee!

x0425Waltar1If each of us had Dr. Alan Waltar as our 8:00 a.m. teacher in school, you could bet we’d all have our diplomas in record time! This man puts more into 25 minutes than most of us put in a day. It’s no mystery why he’s Director of Nuclear Energy for the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, which we all know as “Hanford.” All those atoms have got to go somewhere!

If Dr. Waltar’s name is familiar, that’s because he was introduced by his son, Steve, who happens to be a member of the BBRC. That’s how we got Dr. Waltar as our guest speaker Friday. Tell you what: we’ve had some excellent programs during this Rotary year, and this was one of them! READ MORE

How to Get a Date with Sol

x0425SolMongerThe magic of modern communications was used to demonstrate how easy it is to get a date with Sol, our South American exchange student. Chris Monger, student coordinator, displayed his cell phone. He made a call to Sol (who was standing right beside him!) and showed how easy it is to get on Sol’s calendar and have her enjoy a family outing, a special event, an enjoyable day with her BBRC host. Chris says, “Give Sol a call and help make the few months remaining in her stay very memorable!” Singled out for doing just that was Evelyn Cogswell, who has taken Sol to the opera TWICE!

It’s RFP Time!

x0425KuechleJane Kuechle, taking over the Foundation Committee on July 1, announced that the process of selecting grant recipients will commence early in the new Rotary year, which means that Requests for Proposals (RFP) will also go out early. Jane asked members to look at the list of agencies the club has worked with in the past and add or change any information they may have. She also put in a plug to expand the size of the Foundation committee. “Eight people have signed up for this important work ... we could use about 15 members. More hands, lighter the work!” Help Jane get an early start!

We Get LETTERS

Dear BBRC,

On behalf of the volunteers and staff of the Lake Heights Family YMCA, we want to thank you for your $2500 payment to the 2005 Partners with Youth Campaign. The gift offers opportunities for more than 450 children, enrolled in safe and enriching childcare programs at four childcare sites; Over 360 teens participate in leadership development programs, learning core values and life skills during out-of-school hours; More than 165 different youth attended YMCA Camp Cedar River this past summer, assisting low income families with scholarship funding.

Thank you for your continued support of Lake Heights YMCA.

Scott Sadler, Executive Director
John Uppendahl, General Campaign Chair

Dear BBRC,

Your generous gift is hard at work helping Northwest Medical Teams respond to the devastating tsunami in South Asia. I recently returned from visiting Indonesia and Sri Lanka, where the deadly waves left more than 300,000 people dead or missing and hundreds of thousands more grief-stricken. I am extremely grateful for your support as it provided immediate help and continues to assist us in our long-term efforts.

Sincerely,
Bas Vanderzalm, President
Northwest Medical Team International
Portland, OR
