“Strategic Plan of the United Way,” Jon Fine, CEO, United Way. United Way has just completed a huge community assessment that is a real milestone in understanding the state of our community. A 5-year strategic plan has also been completed. Attend Friday’s meeting and then head for Semi-ah-moo for the Retreat. Carpools will leave Saturday morning for more attendees. Friday’s regular meeting is at 7:00 a.m. at Glendale Country Club.

ADMIN CORNER

Billing has gone out. Retreat this weekend. Tulips are blooming. Wind and rain is in the forecast. Grass is growing. Spring is here.

Kelly Nolan Inducted

x0404Nolan1The BBRC extended the hand of membership to Kelly Nolan, a captain in the Salvation Army, with a classification of “Pastor.” Kelly spent 18 years as a computer consultant before joining the Salvation Army in 2001. His sponsor is Bob Holert.

Bob told the audience that former member David Miller — a Salvation Army board member — recommended Kelly as a new member. Except for one meeting, Kelly has been a steady attender leading up to his induction. In fact, Holert asked the crowd, “When the last time you called and told someone you weren’t gonna attend our meeting? Kelly did that to me one morning. He has better attendance than half our members!”

Kelly is married to Catherine and they have two children, Jeffrey and Joy. The Nolans live in Bellevue and Kelly’s office is also in Bellevue. He’s been a volunteer “Adventure Corps” leader, served as a volunteer at a senior rest home, taken part in Seafair water distribution and also in celebrity bell-ringing in downtown Seattle. He is a member of an Eastside pastor’s prayer group and the Eastside Human Services Alliance. Kelly likes to sing bass, enjoys fishing and computers.

President Norm gave the new member pitch, stressing that joining Rotary “opens up all kinds of vistas for you, Kelly. With your talents and energy, you’ll make this club stronger and you immediately gain over 100 new friends.”

After the pinning ceremony and clipping on the badge, a standing ovation greeted the club’s newest member Kelly Nolan.
