October is Rotary Vocational Service Month
Bob Holert, BBRC Vocational Service Director, rose to introduce the three committees that work under the banner of Vocational Service – an emphasis that makes Rotary unique among service organizations. Vocational Service focuses on the work we do and the classifications we receive when we join Rotary.
Three committees actively pursuing vocational projects include the Vocation at Work Committee, chaired by Steve Peters. Steve described his group meeting twice a month at Hopelink to support a program preparing individuals for the workplace. The enrollees are involved in mock interviews, as well as resume updates as they receive training to re-enter the workforce.
Doug Cameron chairs the Vocational Awareness Committee. “Our focus is on promoting high ethical standards in the workplace, promoting classification talks by our members and tours and programs on ethics.”
John Sheeran, Chair of the Career Development committee told about plans for additional Career Days at local high schools and a proposed Job Shadowing project for teachers.
