International Service Mini Assembly

MiniAssemblyKim Shrader, immediate Past President and the temporary Director for International Service, led an International Service Mini Assembly Friday. His first comment was to echo what Warren Crain had told the audience, that participating in a NID is a life-changing experience. “There’s nothing like a first-hand impression you get when involved in polio eradication.” Kim was part of the District 5030 team that went to Ethiopia last year.

He introduced the Chair of the World Community Service Committee, Steve Lingenbrink, who gave a report of the projects completed this year. The club support financial efforts to ease the pain and suffering of the Iran earthquake, and continued to support programs in Guatemala, Vietnam and Cambodia, and to the Prosthetic Outreach Foundation. “All of these projects helps give life back to people we serve.”

Chris Monger, Youth Study Exchange Committee Chair reported on the current state of the club’s exchange program. “We’re participating with the other three Bellevue Rotary Clubs to host an exchange student each year. We count on host families volunteering, as we rotate through the responsibilities of supporting this program. This is a three-year project which seems to be working well. In the late summer, a new exchange student will arrive from Argentina. We’ll need one host family from the BBRC.” Check with Chris for details.

Shrader closed out his report by saying that “87% of the club has made contributions to the Rotary Foundation. The goal is to have every member participate in some manner. So far, the cash donations to this year’s Annual Fund total a record $32,410.57.”
