New Plans at BAM

RickColletteRick Collette, Vice President for Lending at First Mutual Bank, is a great golfer, a former Rotarian and a member of the Bellevue Community College Board. With all of that, he’s also President of the Bellevue Art Museum (BAM). As most everyone knows, the Museum closed last fall when it ran out of money. Now, Collette is on a speaking tour of the community, telling of the new plans adopted and the Museum’s board’s decision to in October.

“We’ve been closed for 6-7 months. During this time, we identified three major weaknesses that beset the Museum: our mission, our business plan and our board. We’ve spent this interim time addressing each of these weaknesses and feel we’ve earned the right to reopen.”

Collette said there was a “huge disconnect between expectations of the public at the opening of the Museum. People were not excited. We raised a lot of money for construction, but not for operations. After 28 years in Bellevue Square, it was a huge leap in operating expenses, a huge leap in financial management to move to the new facility. We weren’t prepared for the change.” READ MORE

RotaryFoundAnother Match Until June 15

Just a reminder that an anonymous donor has offered to match any donation up to $100 from Rotarians who have not made Annual Fund contributions this year with 100 Recognition Points. This news comes from Jim Owens, the District Annual Giving Chair.

“This extra incentive gives each new donor 100 extra dollars of credit toward their next Paul Harris level.” This new matching program is open through June 15, the final day for processing Foundation gifts. As noted in a broadcast email, Chuck Barnes asks members who have not contributed to mail him their donations to his home address.

This Week
THIRD TIME’S A CHARM! Penny Legate will visit for real this Friday, with her first-hand, eyewitness experiences in Ethiopia covering Rotary’s battle against polio. Penny, a talented TV anchor on Channel 7, joined last year’s 5030 trip to combat the dread disease in poverty-stricken Ethiopia. Join us Friday morning at 7:00 for a delicious buffet breakfast, a meeting at 7:30 and the program at 8:00. Bring a guest — a good friend or neighbor who you think would benefit being a Rotarian. It all happens every week at the Glendale Country Club!

Admin Corner
Coming down the wire in the final quarter of this Rotary Year. It’s been a busy time for all and much has been accomplished. Kudos to Brian Evison and his team for a banner year. With so many reports due at the end of the year (June 30) it behooves us all to tidy up our accounts and square things for a fresh start on July 1 and Rotary Year 2004-2005. Thanks for all your cooperative ventures during the past year. The BBRC truly is one of the world’s special Rotary clubs!

Don’t forget your attendance make-ups. Just go to the website and look for the “Make-up Meeting” link and then follow instructions!
