Friday Potpourri
With a cheery greeting from President Brian, a beautiful spring day dawned at Glendale. Tim Moriarty delivered the invocation and led the pledge to the flag, and Fred Barkman greeted three visiting Rotarians: Gordon Darby, Issaquah; and Luke Esser and Frank Young, Bellevue. Ernie Hayden noted that sheets for committee assignments for the next year will be available for several weeks at a table just as you enter the meeting room. Pick your spots and get ready for a banner Rotary year! BBRC is sponsoring a Preserve Planet Earth work party, Saturday morning, April 24, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Contact Vicky Hunsicker-Sanko for more information. John Martinka will be leading a group to Slovakia next year in conjunction with District 5030s Computers for the World project. Weve collected 100 used computers and need a place to store them. If you have such a place, contact John. And speaking of John Martinka, the past Sergeant At Arms rose to give a review of the Retreat. All he really did was sub for the regular SAA, who had left early (Did she buy a Scooters Badge?) Chuck Kimbrough paid $10 for distributing brochures for Andrea Darvas, a candidate for King County Superior Court Judge. Martinka wanted to know if Retreat attendees found an ample supply of good, cold beer at the Friday reception. The answer was Yes! How about wine? Answer, a resounding NO! Poor Peter Powell had a car full of wine, but was stuck in traffic from Everett on. While Peter was standing up, taking all the heat, it seems the mere mention of wine brought Otis Spleemeyer and his lovely betrothed StellaBellla Spleemeyer strolling into the room. Martinka mentioned that Rotary would be taking orders for Columbia Crest wine, especially bottled for Rotarys Centennial. Otis and StellaBella conferred and agreed to buy a case or two. And, everyone who couldnt attend the Retreat was asked to put a dollar on the table a $55 take. Meanwhile, Peter announced he will buy a whole case of wine to give to the Retail Therapy shoppers, who were most upset by the lack of the fruit of the vine. * * * April Birthdays & Club Anniversaries Congratulations to all members celebrating birthdays and club anniversaries in April!
