Great Secrets of Leadership

BobTraskAn internationally-acclaimed speaker on human potential, Bob Trask, was the BBRC guest speaker Friday. Involved in such activities as wilderness guide, writer, scuba diver, Bob has made presentations all over the world, particularly to corporations and their employees. He founded a non-profit organization called ARAS Foundation.

“Leadership is something about business,” he said. “It’s more than a ministry, because, if we’re listening, we’re called to leadership by a spiritual voice. We are called upon by our families who look to us for leadership.”

Bob asked, "How many 6- or 7-year-old kids are paying attention to you? Well, you’d be surprised how well they pay attention to you. It’s called being accountable, and the wake we leave behind truly affects people.

Eastside YMCA Forum Scheduled

Next week, the YMCA will present the “Eastside Forum on Strong and Healthy Families,” designed to address challenges facing families in these increasingly complex times. YMCA Youth Forums in the past have yielded outcomes that have changed program offerings, as well as shifted the critical thinking of business and community leaders.

The dialogue between families and community leaders will be hosted by Eastside parents and business leaders Martin Taylor, Manger, Microsoft Platform Strategies, and Nancy Cho, President, Oki Development, Inc. The forum is made possible through Microsoft Corporation’s support of YMCA efforts to build strong kids, family and communities.

The event is Tuesday, April 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Dinner will be served. Space is limited, and RSVP is necessary immediately.

It takes place at the Microsoft Conference Center on the Microsoft campus in Redmond. Families are invited to bring their kids. For more information, contact Deborah Moore, YMCA PR Director, Ph 206-223-1634.

Thought for the Week

Leadership is not a formula, or a program. It is a human activity that comes from the heart. And considers the heart of others. It is an attitude, not a routine.

Admin Corner
This year, District Governor John Jacob Gardiner has emphasized 100% participation in the Rotary Foundation. This means that ALL members of the District and its clubs should plan to make some kind of contribution to this very vital tool promoting world peace and understanding. Although the goal is a $250 contribution from each Rotarian, the BBRC is striving to receive a contribution from EACH member. Please make your intentions known to Chuck Barnes, who has promised to match each gift during the month of April. Let’s make our club’s Rotary Foundation goal of $28,750 a reality. The time to act is NOW!
