Community Service Conducts
Under the leadership of Director Scott Sadler, the three major committee leaders gave a brief overview of Community Service activities so far this Rotary Year. Alan Bohling, chair of Youth Services Committee, reported his committee sponsors the Student of the Month program one of the clubs longest-running projects; the Sammamish High School planner; Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Seminar; Awarding 12 scholarships to five high schools, involving interviews with 50 potential student-recipients. Alan asked that other committees could help his groups work by finding another $2000 for scholarships from funds that may become surplus prior to the end of this Rotary Year. See Alan if you can help. Vicky Hunsicker-Sanko is heading up the Preserve Planet Earth Committees planting project set for Saturday, April 24, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Marymoor Park. This is a BBRC project only, where the club will revisit an area previously planted by the club to check on the progress on improving the Sammamish river watershed. Vicky said that the club caps will be available to members to pick up this Friday. Lynne Gauthier, chair of the Community Service committee asked members to save May 15 for a home repair project. 20-30 workers are needed. Some of the other successful committee projects completed this year include Thanksgiving baskets, aid to three families at Christmastime, Gave grants to the Eastside YMCA, and Eastside Baby Corner, and to the Wheelchair project. |
