Dowell Becomes Newest Member
Valoree Dowell, a Seattle Four Rotarian for nearly six years, became the newest member of the Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club on Friday. Her induction was fashioned by Club President Kim Shrader and her sponsor, Norm Johnson. Kim told Valoree about the obligations of membership, and Norm gave a biographical sketch.
Valoree married her husband Steve 31 years ago. The couple has two sons, Shane, 21, and Tom, 19. Valoree recently retired from Immunex, after 18 years with the company. She was a Vice-President of Corporation Communications at her retirement. With Seattle Rotary, she was the Membership Orientation Chairperson in 2001. Her involvement with Rotary brought her in contact with environmental and youth mentoring projects. She’s been nominated to the Board of the Totem Council of Girl Scouts and has been a member of the Fred Hutchison NW Industry Partnership, the Washington Biotech/Biomed Association, and is a current board member of the Editorial Board of the Northwest Science and Technology Magazine, published by the UW.
Valoree’s classification is “Biotechnology Consulting,” and she enjoys cooking, gardening, and reading the classics. She also enjoys skiing and golf and is a member of the Glendale Country Club, Bellevue Club, and Columbia Tower Club. Valoree received her red badge from President Kim, her Rotary pin from Norm Johnson, and her own copy of the BBRC Operations Manual, presented by publisher Cary Kopczynski. Valoree was welcomed with a standing ovation from the membership.
