Students of the Month: Aaron Mochizuki & Jared Mayers
Aaron Mochizuki, a senior at Bellevue Christian High School, was introduced by Larry May as a December Student of the Month. He was accompanied by his parents, Susan and Jim, and principal, Bill Saystrom. Aaron has compiled an outstanding 3.99 GPA in his high school career. He was described as being well-rounded in all his activities, particularly in the community. He told the audience he was “active in my church as a worship leader and a vacation Bible school teacher. I took Advanced Placement biology, which turned me on to medicine.” Aaron was designated as a UW College of Engineering Emerging Leader and has competed for the BCHS track squad. He plans to pursue a career in medicine and is deciding between attending UCLA or UW.
Jared Mayers, a senior at Sammamish High School, can’t remember his last B, according to his introducer, Bob Holert. Jared sports a perfect 4.00 GPA, while serving as captain of the cross country team, a second baseman for SHS baseball, and a National Merit Scholar. He plans a college career in International Studies. He has worked as a regular volunteer for Multiple Sclerosis Services. When his mother was diagnosed with MS, he volunteered to help where he could. Now, he volunteers untold hours weekly, since he enjoys interacting with the young MS sufferers and receives much more than he gives. Jared was mum on his future academic plans.
Each student received a plaque commemorating their selection. The Student-of-the-Month recognition program is one of the oldest-running projects of the BBRC.
