Off to Perm

Steve Lingenbrink

Preparations are underway for a big undertaking of the World Community Service Committee of the BBRC. The Mission Trip to Perm, Russia, will take several members and over two weeks to complete. Steve Lingenbrink, Club Service I Director and spokesman for the mission, introduced the project to the BBRC. (Download a video about Perm, Russia, here!)

“Team Perm 2002 has the same degree of enthusiasm as last year’s Romanian trip,” Steve said. “Perm is a city of several million people, situated 800 miles east of Moscow. The area has many state-owned orphanages, and there are reported to be over 750,000 orphans in Russia. The goal of our mission is to interface with the orphans, build a four-chair dental clinic, establish an Internet café, conduct an outreach ministry, and give financial aid. We will need additional resources and are hoping to raise $50,000 from individuals and organizations who can support our cause.” Since this is BBRC-sanctioned event, the funds will be accepted through the BBRC Foundation, making the gifts tax deductible.

A container of dental equipment and other supplies was sent in February to Perm. When the team gets there in May, the intense construction phase will begin. Lingenbrink, along with WSC Chairperson Mike Hyodo, will conduct the team’s activities on site in Perm. Contributions can be made by check to the BBRC Foundation, or you may send the check to Mike Hyodo, 11801 N.E. 36th Pl., Bellevue, WA 98005.
