Sparrow, May
Larry May #2 presents plaque to Ross Sparrow.

Ross Sparrow, “outstanding citizen and athlete,” was introduced by Larry May #2. Ross is a senior at Eastside Catholic, where he has excelled in debate, football, swimming, and track. He has been the recipient of the John Costello Scholarship award for all four years at Eastside Catholic. Ross has been active in the community, notably volunteering at Children’s Hospital. His intentions are to enroll at either Santa Clara or Notre Dame. Ross commented that his school experience helped “shape and mold me for community service, a requirement at Eastside Catholic. I’ve been fortunate to take this challenge and have enjoyed running with it. I especially liked work with the migrant community in Yakima each summer. I’ve traveled to Europe in a People-to-People exchange. Because of these experiences, I can be a better worker for God and have a better sense of who I am and what I’m to do.”

Bob Holert introduces Sok Mae Tea.

Sok Mae Tea, a senior at Sammamish High School, was introduced by Bob Holert. “Sok is enrolled in four AP classes – that means “Advanced Placement” – for which credit is given upon entering college. Sok is President of the Honor Society and an officer in Key Club.” In response, Sok told her audience she has been in “Bellevue Schools for eight years and I thank the district for my education. It’s taught me to be strong and to work hard. I devote at least a small part of my day to giving something back.”

Among her community activities, Sok has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, the Bellevue Youth Council, 9-11 Fund, Crossroads Feeding programs, and tutoring. She plans to study medicine but doesn’t know where yet. She thanked the BBRC for recognizing youth and their deeds.
