The Distilled Wisdom of Human Nature
Rabbi Daniel Lapin, national radio talk show host on political, economic, and cultural values and the author of two best sellers, paid another visit to the BBRC Friday. The Rabbi and his wife live on Mercer Island with their seven seven children, all homeschooled.
While researching the ancient texts of early sages to help Rabbi Lapin counsel his congregants in their personal and professional lives, he uncovered the "distilled wisdom of human nature." He saw that while technology has certainly changed during the last two millennia, the nature of human beings and of business transactions have not. MORE
February is Dale Hemphill Month Dale Hemphill, our resident good guy, has been laid up since the first of January undergoing radiation treatments for cancer. Dale reports he’s “doing fairly well,” although he has trouble with a raspy voice. During his ordeal, he’s lost 35 pounds. Dale’s birthday is Saturday, February 23, and he celebrates his sixth anniversary as a BBRC member on the same day. It’s been a little quiet around Glendale each Friday morning since Dale’s illness. Dale, along with Earl Falk and Paul Juul, are always the early-risers and help to get things going. Dale mentioned in a phone conversation that “you really don’t know what you’re missing until it’s taken from you. I miss the fellowship each week of the BBRC and the good times we have. Those people who first formed the Club must have been awfully sensitive people, because you all have shown how much you care for me during this time.” Get well, Dale, and return to the fold soon!
Moloney Minute Mr. Fellowship, Bob Moloney, rose to declare “No more spam email!” Quite a statement from one who is working on just getting his password entered! Bob is the instigator/coordinator for the “Leavenworth Invasion” taking place Friday and Saturday, May 17 and 18. Some 30 Rotarians have signed up with the total entourage numbering 62!
RYLA Now! Al Bohling, perpetual Chairperson (and doing a doggone good job, too!) of the BBRC’s participation in RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) Conference, which is held each year in March at Pacific Lutheran University. “We need your applications now! RYLA is for high school juniors or seniors, and we give special consideration to children of Rotarians. However, if you have an acquaintance that would benefit from this program, please contact me.” (Al Bohling email)
Thought for the Week Good, better, best – never rest until your good is better and your better is best.

THIS WEEK Ciscoe Morris, recently retired as Grounds Manager at Seattle University, will join the BBRC Friday for what promises to be an entertaining morning. Seen regularly on TV and heard on radio, Ciscoe continues to be involved in programs for advice to gardeners. He is a master gardener who delivers his message in vaudevillian fashion (Oo-la-la!). He started gardening when he was 10 years old, and he started working at Seattle University in 1978. Bring all your bare root problems to the BBRC on Friday for Ciscoe Morris! Buffet Breakfast at 7:00 a.m., meeting at 7:30, and program at 8:00. Guests are always welcome at the Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club, so long as they park in the upper parking lot!
ADMIN CORNER Things are quiet on the Admin Front.
Heard in church recently: Man and woman had a tumultuous relationship. She nagged the poor fellow unmercifully throughout their marriage. After 50 years together, he passed away. After the funeral, she had an attractive tombstone installed at the gravesite that said, simply, “Rest in Peace.”
Later, the details of the estate became known and in the will, the man had left his entire estate to his sister. The woman returned to the cemetery and added this phrase to the epitaph: “…till we meet again!”
