New Member Applications Approved: Hayden, Ludwig, Perine, Stansell & Thorsen

In a record-breaking performance worthy of an Olympic gold medal, Club Service II Director Bob McNulty schussed down the slopes of prospective new members and offered five (5) new applications at Tuesday’s monthly board meeting. The five nominees are:

Ernest “Ernie” Hayden, proposed classification “Energy Management Software,” is sponsored by Jim “Flashbulb” Kindsvater and co-sponsored by Sharon Edberg. Ernie is director of Energy Management and Marketing Software for ALSTOM Esca Corporation in Bellevue. ALSTOM is a worldwide leader in the development of power management systems and software for the deregulated electric utility marketplace. ALSTOM is headquartered in Paris.

Ernie has been a member of the Rotary Club of Bellevue Noon for the past two years. While there, he served on the International Committee. He and his wife, Virginia (Ginny), and daughter, Karina, live in North Bend.

Ernie has a broad background in engineering and business. He received a BA in Business Administration from the UW, completed graduate-level coursework at the University of California at Riverside and Kennesaw College in Georgia, and is a graduate of the Center for Creative Leadership- Leadership Development Program. In the Navy, Ernie qualified as Chief Engineer and certified as a Senior Reactor Operator at the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) in Atlanta, GA and filled the roles as Secretary of the Corporation, Assistant to the CEO, and Consulting Team Manager.

Other community involvement includes serving as a board member of the Eastside YMCA, board member of Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust, and active lay minister of his church. Ernie enjoys jogging, fitness, genealogy research, reading, and lawn/yard maintenance.

Brenda L. Ludwig applies for membership with a classification of “Educational Publishing.” She is sponsored by Jenny Andrews and co-sponsored by Rourke O’Brien. Brenda works as a program manager for Wright Group McGraw Hill, with offices in Bothell. Her occupation is listed as Professional Development. She has three grown children, Todd, Bryan, and Elizabeth, and she lives in Redmond.

Brenda’s community involvement includes Cancer Block Chairman, Cancer Relay, Reading Tutor, Bellevue Art Museum Volunteer, Seattle Symphony Volunteer Association, and Kirkland Performing Arts Center volunteer. Her professional associations include International Reading Association, National Staff Development Association, and Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. She also volunteers for Planned Parenthood.

Brenda enjoys travel and reading and counts snow skiing, water skiing, hiking, and golf among her favorite sports activities. She is a member of the Bellevue Athletic Club.

Kenneth J “Ken” Perine, classification “Pastor,” is sponsored by Paul Martin and co-sponsored by Rourke O’Brien. Ken is married to Jenni and they have three children, Jonah, Courtney, and Bethany. The family lives in Bellevue.

Ken is employed by The Salvation Army, as a Pastor/Corps Officer. His title is Captain and the principal activity of his employer is church and social services. Ken has been a member of the Bellevue Noon Club for the past three years.

His community involvement includes coaching little league and teaching music to low-income kids. In addition to his duties with his work, Ken also plays the Euphonium and says he only knows Salvation Army tunes. He may have to learn “Go Vandals Go.” His hobbies are listed as sailing, surfing, and baseball.

Polly Stansell, proposed classification “Education: Online Learning,” is sponsored by Rourke O’Brien and co-sponsored by Jenny Andrews. Polly is Chief Development Officer for Reality Based Learning (RBL) Company in Redmond. Polly is married to Joe and the couple has two children, Will and Sam. They live in Redmond.

Polly’s occupation is described as educational software development. Her company develops software for RBL’s website and other products. Previously, Polly worked at Edmark. She has volunteered for work at Sacred Heart Church and at Audubon Elementary School. She enjoys cooking, wine tasting, and youth sports. Her recreational activities include skiing, golfing, bicycling, hiking, and traveling.

Jeanne Thorsen, proposed classification “Libraries-Fund Development,” is sponsored by Jane Kuechle and co-sponsored by Norm Johnson. Since 1983, Jeanne has worked at the King County Library System and is currently the Executive Director of the System’s Foundation. The Library Systems offices are located in Issaquah. Jeanne is a former member of the International District Rotary Club in Seattle where she was Newsletter Editor and Scholarship Committee Chairperson.

Jeanne is married to Tom Mayer and they have two children, Jessica Wuttke and Alyssa Mayer. They live in Edmonds.

Some of Jeanne’s community involvement notes work on the City of Edmonds’ Sister City Commission, Edmonds Library Campaign Committee, Southwest Youth Service Bureau in Seattle, and the Central District YMCA as a board member. She has earned degrees in Public Administration from Seattle University, a Masters in Library Science from the UW, and a BA in Political Science from Eastern Washington State College.

Jeanne has recently completed a term as President of the Library Administration and Management Association, which is a 5,600 member division of the American Library Association. She is a member of numerous other local and regional organizations and author of several published articles. She’s a member of the Northwest Development Officers Association and of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
