Greg Whitney (L), Rotary First Harvest, and BBRC member Earl Falk

Greg Whitney of Rotary First Harvest took the floor to tell the BBRC about this highly successful Rotary program. “We’ve gathered 65 millions pounds of food since our first year in 1982. At our Annual Awards Banquet last week, sponsored by University Rotary, the founding club, Earl Falk was one of four recipients of the Mike Shanahan Award.” Mike was the University of Washington Police Chief when he was inspired to create First Harvest.
Whitney said the award is given for “volunteer service for hunger alleviation. These are people who give so much to their community. The true meaning of life is to plant trees under which its shade you do not expect to sit and enjoy. Earl is the epitome of goodness, bringing sunshine – and we can’t keep this award a secret any longer.”
A standing ovation greeted our dedicated fellow member, Earl. He has molded the BBRC membership into a group that’s equally dedicated to supporting Rotary First Harvest. A much deserved award to a fine Rotarian.
