Classification Talk

Bill Schultheis focused on his classification of  “Financial Journalist” with an interesting twist – using comments from readers of his column that appears in the Eastside Journal and several other publications nationwide. He read from an email from a reader who’d fired her stockbroker about a year ago and took over her own portfolio. She reported she had new money to invest, but a year later has now lost 72% of the original portfolio. She said “If I had a stockbroker, I could at least yell at him. Now, I’m afraid.”

Bill‘s column is called the Coffee House Investor. His mantra is “Buy, Diversify & Hold.” He also holds to some important wealth management principles which embrace these three principles: “Don’t put your eggs in one basket; There is no free lunch; and Save for rainy day.” Bill reports that “lots of people are tuning to these principles.

The Coffee House Investor had its roots in Eastern Washington in the heart of the Palouse where “my dad was obsessed with trading stocks. He was so obsessed that we kids never had the experience of going fishing on the Snake River, going camping, and just being together as a family.” That’s why Bill preaches a need for balance in life, balance in the family, and balance in investing. “The challenge is to be bold. With two CPAs, I formed Pacific Asset Management. When it comes to investing, people can’t afford to make mistakes. The BBRC is boldness in action! That’s why I was attracted to this club.

With his engaging personality, Bill will be a valuable asset to the BBRC in the years to come.
