Background

Alberto Solano has served as President and Executive Director of Agros International since 2015. A native of Guatemala, he previously held roles as Regional CEO for Latin America at the Grameen Foundation and Latin American Program Director for Global Partnerships. He holds a degree in agronomic engineering from Zamorano University and an MBA from INCAE Business School, and is a fellow of the Aspen Institute.

Agros International, a Seattle-based nonprofit founded in 1984, purchases farmland in Central America and transfers ownership to families who repay its value through their harvests. Mr. Solano will discuss why ownership, rather than aid, anchors the organization’s approach to rural poverty.
