Sue Rahr

Background

Sue Rahr served as the 31st Sheriff of King County from 2005 to 2012, having begun her career as a King County Sheriff’s Office deputy in 1979 and risen through the ranks. She then spent nine years as Executive Director of the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission, where she redesigned the state academy’s curriculum around de-escalation, communication, and constitutional principles. She was appointed to President Obama’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing and served as Interim Chief of the Seattle Police Department from May 2024 through January 2025. Ms. Rahr holds a B.A. from Washington State University.
