THIS WEEK

NO REGULAR MEETING AT GLENDALE THIS MORNING!
Head on out to Mt. Si for the BBRC 10th Annual Golf Outing. This is a fund raiser for the BBRC raffle, with the proceeds purchasing the prizes and covering expenses for the club raffle. Registration is at 7:00 a.m., with a continental breakfast set prior to the scramble shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. All Rotarians can join the golfers anytime during the morning (counts as a make-up), plus enjoy a barbecue lunch at 1:30 pm, when awards for the Outing will be given. Beautiful weather assured by Dick Brown.

President Steve Lingenbrink kicked off his first meeting with a monlogue worthy of Jay Leno. LeeAnn Wood gave the invocation, and Tom Harrelson greeted visitors and guests, including Megan White, all the way from Kenya. Megan was given a moment to tell about the various projects the 11 Rotary Clubs in Nairobi are doing to help people there: 29 water wells, 1000 limbs for war time victims, and computer labs. Megan specifically works for a group that takes children from the street and turns them in to leaders and problem solvers. The program has been very successful and currently has participants earning college degrees.

President Steve invited Sayoko up to talk about fellowship. Unfortunately, Sayoko was a little flustered and was only able to speak in Japanese. The good news is that Chris Ballard, our new Sargeant at Arms, was able to come up and help translate. (Who knew Chris was fluent in Japanese?) What Sayoko was trying to tell everyone is that the Fellowship Committtee has been very busy planning some outstanding events! Sign-up sheets are on the tables (or you can always contact some one on the Fellowship Committee).

x0704PowellAfter his translation, Chris stayed up front to give his warning: He is expecting everyone to “shake it up a bit.” That means not the same table every week or sitting by the same person. It means getting to know a new area of the room, getting to know new people ... or you will be fined! Consider yourselves warned!

To get into the swing of the SAA thing, Chris fined Peter Powell for missing his mini-club assembly presentation. Peter tried to get out of it by explaining how his committee heads are extremely competent, but he just seemed to dig himself in deeper. Peter gave up and sat down with a $25 fine.
