Vol. 17, No. 15, October 11, 2004

Friday Potpourri

GreetersPresident Norm noted the dark and wet morning, but showing the weather has no effect on buoyancy of the BBRC on dark October days. Norm introduced Bob McNulty, who took from his billfold an impressive invocation from the writings of Robert Louis Stevenson. You never know what Rotarians will pull from their wallet!

Sayoko Powell greeted Jennifer Pratt, a Rotarian from the Issaquah Club and a friend of Carlos Aragon. Sayoko wanted to know what question Jennifer would have for Ichiro if she could address him: “What’s the difference between playing in the U.S. and Japan?”

Hans Giner was again welcomed as a guest and is being re-instated as a member. Hans returned from a seven-year absence to the Bellevue area.

Preserve Planet Earth will hold another fall work party the morning of Saturday, November 6. In cooperation with County and City officials, more work will be done on planting shrubs and trees along the Sammamish River. Plan to bring your family members and neighbors who have an interest in our environment.

Raffle Update: Week 10 of 15;$67,903 captured. Spielfarb’s group leads 40 to 27. Mary Bell/Colin Radford have accounted for $11,000. A wild Hollywood finish is predicted!

OutpatientCare
Mary Bell, having sold all her tickets and a few tons more, has retired to recuperate after undergoing back surgery. She is home and resting.

Jim Young has returned on schedule from his prostate surgery. “I’m doing well, thank you!”

John Mix’s warranty gets set to expire this Friday as he celebrates the big 7-0. 2004 has been the “Year of the Procedure.” Mix has spent five sessions in the Emergency Room stemming the tide of a wayward blood vessel in his nose. Now, it’s surgery, with an outpatient procedure set for Thursday, October 28. Previously, he had other plumbing problems taken care of in a procedure on September 27. Obviously, it’s time for a new extended warranty!
