ROAR1

THIS WEEK

This Week marks the culmination of another Rotary Year — not just any Rotary Year, but the once-in-a-100-years commemoration of Rotary International’s founding. With work yet to do, the BBRC enters its 20th year by celebrating another Rotating the Wheels. This promises to be the finest ever, with over 120 members and guests arriving at the Mercer Island Beach Club, 8326 Avalon Drive, Mercer Island. Complete directions to the site are available on the BBRC website.

THERE WILL BE NO FRIDAY MORNING MEETING AT GLENDALE. Meeting’s resume next week with the first meeting of the new year, Friday, July 1, 7:00 a.m at Glendale.

ADMIN CORNER

The old Mix Chassis is undergoing some preliminaries to a grand surgery scheduled for Monday, July 11. An arthritic knee got the best of your Club Administrator and will be replaced that day. Just plug and play, right?!

Norm’s Farewell

x0621JohnsonEdbergThe Presidential Farewell Address found Norm happy to turn over the reins, but happier still at the prospect of serving Rotary this past year. He thanked a group of retiring board members: Brian Evison, 6 years service; Margie B, two years as treasurer; Scott Sadler; Phil Salvatori; Jenny Andrews; Will Einstein; Peter Powell; and Paul Martin, all of whom will make way for their successors on July 1. They each got a rousing ovation.

Norm thanked the club for the honor of serving as its president. He was upbeat about the Centennial Project, which is “approaching $400,000 ... going for $500,000.” Norm paid special tribute to Sharon Edberg, past BBRC President and, most recently, the club’s Assistant Governor. Sharon will move to the South Whidbey Island Rotary Club at the first of July and she and Gordy enjoy the fruits of retirement. Thanks, Sharon! Yeah, we’re gonna miss you!

Past President Steve Goldfarb spoke for everyone, praising Norm for his successful and active year with a standing “O” and sustained applause. There’ll be more of the same at this Friday’s Rotating the Wheels Dinner at the Mercer Island Beach Club.
