Friday Potpourri

GreetersPresident Johnson gave the welcome, introducing Steve Luplow for the invocation and the pledge, followed by Evelyn Cogswell greeting three visiting Rotarians: Russ Wilson, Renton; Chuck Burke, “Man Without a Club,” and Brian Heimbigner, former BBRC member, now working on joining the Dunwoody/Atlanta Club.

A pleasant surprise was the welcome visit from Brian Heimbigner. Brian is Business Development Manager with American Water, headquartered in Atlanta. He told us his family has sold their Bellevue home, and they’ll be acquiring new digs in the Atlanta area soon. His company manages the Tolt River Water System for the City of Seattle, as well as many other water systems throughout the country. American Water also owns outright many systems. We wish Brian and his wife Linda the very best and hope they can return often to the BBRC.

BurkeChuck Burke, the charter president of the Rotary Club of Duvall, showed up Friday morning. Chuck and his wife Lisa are emplaning for Maui this week, returning to their Hawaiian roots. “Our great experiment here in the Northwest just didn’t work for us. We missed our island home too much.” Chuck will reconnect with Rotary as he settles back into business Hawaiian style.

It was good to welcome Larry Gill back to his one-and-only Rotary club! Larry took a six-month leave of absence to get his life in order (others of us should do the same). As our only commercial photographer, Larry jumped right in and grabbed the camera away from John Mix and Jim Kindsvater and insisted on doing the member pictures for the Directory. There probably will be another session sometime soon, since a few candidates were not available for their mug shots. Thanks, Larry. You’re one of the many people who make the BBRC special, with your willingness to serve and sharing your talent. We’re glad to have you back in the saddle!

Program Chair Jim Gordon reported that Captain Tym Ozmer, who spoke to the club back in December, has recovered sufficiently from his battle injuries to be re-assigned to Iraq.
