Classification Talk: Alan Forney

ForneyAlan Forney, classification “Banking, Commercial Finance,” gave his Classification Talk to the club Friday. Alan related how his son helped with him with his perspective one day, when Alan heard him telling someone,“My dad is a teller at the bank.” Alan asked him where he got that information. His son replied, “Well, you’re not the president!”

As a freshman in college, Alan signed on as a deckhand on a crab boat in the middle of the Bering Sea. “I was a 19-year-old, earning $600 a day, but I knew that in order to be successful, I must learn about business. I went back to school and began my banking career with Rainier National Bank in 1984.”

Alan says he see “a lot of different things daily” in his work as a commercial middle market sector consultant for his employer, US Bank. “Technology abounds in today’s world, creating challenges for everyone.” Alan has been married 15 years to Teresa and they have two children, the aforementioned son, age 12, and an 8-year-old daughter. Alan's son has been invited to take the college SATs!

Both Teresa and Alan are UW grads. Alan had a career in rowing at the UDub. “I was on the great Husky team in 1981 and we won a Silver Medal in the Olympic Games. I currently serve on the Endowment Committee for the school’s rowing club.” Alan counts among his interests serving on the Alaska Airline Relief Team which assisted relatives of the victims of the Alaska plane crash in California. He’s served on committees for Big Brothers, Junior Achievement and United Way.

Thanks to Alan for his interesting Classification Talk.
