SOTMBob Holert introduced Laura Ng, a senior student at Sammamish High School. Accompanying her was her counselor Loma Van Der Housen. Also attending from Sammamish faculty was Pam Schroder, Orchestra teacher.

Laura, an American born Chinese, has overcome health challenges to graduate this year. She suffers from Lupus, a disease that strikes the immune system. Laura described Lupus and her stay in the hospital when she first contracted it “I am working hard to be productive and successful. It’s not that bad; it could be worse.”

Laura has regular attendance at school and she studies hard, according to Counselor Van Der Housen. She writes poetry and prose and plays the violin in the Sammamish orchestra. She is a member of Key Club and the Future Leaders of America, and she has formed a school Mandarin Club, of which she is president, and participated in a China study tour of China. Laura is interested in learning more about Chinese culture and will enroll at either Pacific Lutheran or Western Washington Universities this fall.

Holert awarded Laura her plaque, recognizing her as the January Student of the Month.
