Board of Directors Actions At a meeting at the conference room of Hellam Varon LLC, CPA firm in Bellevue, the BBRC Board of Directors held their January board meeting (01-11-05). President Norm Johnson reminded the officers and directors that goals for the Presidential Citation were being met and that each area should be assessing its role in achieving a positive result leading to a Presidential Citation for the club. Vicky Hunsicker Sanko has requested extension of her leave of absence due to her recovery from major surgery in late December. The Board granted her an extension through March 31, 2005. Also on leave until that time is John Hague. On the club sick list, Don Deasy has returned to Swedish for more chemo. Carol Hoeft continues to undergo her chemotherapy with apparent success. The Board approved the application of Dr. Daniel S. Geare, DMD, for membership in the BBRC. Dr. Geare is sponsored by Terry Baker. Community Service Director Scott Sadler praised the work of Phil Salvatori on the Giving Tree, which brought so much joy to families at the YMCA and Hopelink. Treasurer Margie Burnett produced a financial statement which shows the club to be on track for the 2004-2005 budget. President-Elect Steve Lingenbrink is preparing for the changeover of administrations on July 1, with a meeting of the new board held Wednesday of last week (01-12-2005). Work is going forward to plan the details and agenda of the annual Club Planning Retreat, held once again at Semi-ah-moo Resort north of Bellingham. The dates are April 8 and 9. Vocational Service Director Carlene Buty reported that her group is implementing a plan to job share on each of her three committees, thus setting up a succession plan for committee leadership. Club Service I Director Will Einstein noted that programs are filled into May. Fellowship is planning an after-hours social. Retention Committee Chair Jim Owens attended the meeting, sharing statistics of low attendance figures of some members. Jims comments raised a discussion about how best to increase attendance of these members in accordance with RI policies. There will be further discussion at the next meeting. Finally, member Sayoko Powell informed the club of a name change. She has reverted back to her maiden name, Kuwahara. You will find her listed now in the Ks. President Johnson adjourned the meeting with a comment that he had attended the first club social on the third Thursday of the month at Rock Bottom. He said he Drank, Beer, and left. This reminded your scribe of the story of the Panda who went into a restaurant, ordered a meal, pulled out a gun and shot towards the ceiling. He then left the premises. This act was described in a book entitled Eats, Shoots and Leaves, which is how the dictionary describes a Panda. Punctuation is everything. |
