Dr. Mike Hyodo returned to Bellevue after spending two months in Jamaica setting up two dental clinics. Mike has been instrumental in setting up clinics all over the world – in Romania, Russia, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and now two in Jamaica.
“I missed my Rotary Club”, Mike said. “I was privileged to be involved in this World Community Service International project – establishing a medical-dental and a dental clinic. My family went with me and we had a glorious summer! Our mission was to help the poor in the area around the capital city of Kingston.”
Audre DaCosta, a dentist, will soon be moving to Jamaica and will manage the clinics. “There is an alarming amount of poverty and violence among the population of this country. I met with government officials and attended at least a half-dozen Rotary Club meetings to promote our cause.” The BBRC gave a grant of $7,491 to build the two dental clinics. The clinics are now being built at two churches. During his stay, Mike was interviewed on radio, TV and received coverage in the newspapers.
While there, a shipment of wheelchairs from the Wheelchair Foundation arrived. As Mike said, the BBRC is making a difference with its WCS projects.
