Residence East receives grant

ResEastEric Portnoff, Executive Director of Residence East, a program to help children with developmental disabilities in Bellevue, was the recipient of an $11,000 grant check, presented by Foundation Director Phil Salvatori.

Residence East was founded in 1974 by a group of parents who recognized a need for their children suffering these disabilities. It became the first group home in Bellevue and on Eastside. The first facility is known as the Bellevue Group Home and began operation in 1978. “Its population is aging, some having been there since the home opened. Half of the money received today will go toward a new roof on the house, where eight people are being served.

The other half of the grant will go to another home where five people are served. The money will allow us to finish renovation, making a duplex out of the split-level home. These are really significant improvements for us. They’re especially important because most of our funding comes from the State, and when budgets are tight, we have to find other sources of support. So, we are grateful for your support and this gift is very welcomed.”

Community Service gives grant to Eastside Baby Corner

BabyCornerThe Community Service Committee handed over a $500 check to the Eastside Baby Corner, a not for profit organization in Issaquah, to help them purchase items that are given to families who can’t otherwise afford it.

Madeline Gauthier, committee chairperson, gave the check to Karen Reuben, who explained that the Baby Corner specializes in clothing, books, and baby equipment from a child at birth up to 12 years old. “We give away 30-40 car seats each week. We have opportunities for people to do community service for volunteers. We’ve had millions of dollars donated over the years and we fill a big need on the Eastside.”
