GreetersPresident Evison opened the proceedings, looking for the missing “Lend a Hand” banner. He was urged to continue with the meeting, anyway. He introduced Chip Erickson, who delivered a homily about St. Patrick’s Day and led the pledge to the flag.

Alan Bohling greeted four visiting Rotarians including Ron Rauch, Bellevue Noon; Dean Cummings, Newport-Priest River; and Dick Spady, Bellevue Overlake.

On a recent trip to Mexico City, President Evison found some new friends in a Mexico City Rotary Club. Several of their members will be visiting Seattle in May. Brian convinced them the BBRC was “wide awake” for our weekly breakfast, so they branded us “the Wide-Awake Club.”

golfer3With the Retreat fast approaching (April 2-3), sign-ups are needed for those golfers intending to swing around the course in nearby Mt. Vernon. Ruben Ladlad is in charge of this event and requests sign-ups this coming week — 20-24 slots have been reserved for Retreat Golfers. So, don’t disappoint.

The SAAA, soon to take over the reins from Mary Bell, did a practice run on the Club Friday. SAA Apprentice Jenny Andrews, who didn’t want to leave the Board of Directors (from her present Club Service II Directorship) and took the offer of Sergeant At Arms in the Norm Johnson administration, tried her hand in Mary Bell’s absence — and showed a lot of promise.

For instance, she did some research as to what RI expects of the SAA and, reading from the document, said the Sergeant At Arms ‘will help maintain an orderly meeting and be constantly on the alert for individuals or events that would detract from the dignity and prestige of Rotary.” [Pause] “NOT,” said Jenny. So, it’s business as usual!

A closed circuit notice from the SAAA for new daddy Alex Rule: “That baby is getting heavier each day. Better get in here soon or your fine will be astronomical!”

Andrews1Finally, Jenny asked the people to stand who were celebrating March as their Rotary anniversary month. People like Mix (18 years), HoJo (17 years) and NoJo (15 years) were asked to pony up a buck for every year in Rotary. That was understood by just a few people to apply only to the people standing. Seems a large part of the crowd heard “put a buck on the table for every year you’ve been in Rotary,” and $386 later, the SAA had a new stash in the Sergeant's kitty. Now, Bell has a new one-day mark to reach! Thanks, Jenny. The long line you see at the banks are Rotarians taking out loans!
