A Capsule Look at Vocational Service

HolertA series of Mini-Club Assemblies will feature specific areas of service in Rotary. Friday was Vocational Service, led by director Bob Holert, who admitted he didn’t know anything about it, so would call on his committee chairs for a quick activity report.

PetersSteve Peters heads the Vocation at Work Committee, which links with Hopelink to help train people headed back out to the job market. The committee helps conduct mock interviews for the job seeker, goes over resumes, and generally instills confidence in the person. Working on this project are Jan Nestler, Norm Johnson and Mary Bell.

SheeranJohn Sheeran has captained the Career Development Committee for the past two years and you can bet HE knows what’s going on! John said the committee had supported Washington Business Week last summer, sending four students from area schools who then reported back to the club. We’ll do the same this year. There have been two Sammamish High School Career Days projects, with “great participation on career panels by club members.” Bellevue Christian High School invited the BBRC to participate in their Career Day recently, with Vicky Sanko, Bill Schultheis, Tom Smith and Sheeran’s son John, an attorney, participating.

CameronDoug “Jock” Cameron heads the Vocational Awareness Committee, which sponsors an annual Ethics program. “We give exposure to the various classifications in the Club with our re-classification talks and will be sponsoring our Ethics program on May 7 (Siete de Mayo) when the topic will be 'End of Life Decisions.'"
