Rotary First Harvest Benefits from Bell’s Fundraising

That doggone Mary Bell! She’s so smooth at extracting special needs funds from the membership! As Sergeant At Arms, Mary first told the Club that “Brian squeezed her (something we didn’t know the President was allowed to do) for time on Friday’s program,” so she quickly gave a quiz about Rotary First Harvest, with correct answers on all four questions. She then invited RFH Director Kevin Jewell to come to the front to introduce David Bobanick, Executive Director of Rotary First Harvest, a District 5030 project. The Club heard about the “Feinstein Match,” an annual program by a philanthropist who matches dollar-for-dollar funds raised during match to fight hunger.

The Fasting for First Harvest Badge raises about $2,400 annually from the BBRC, and a check for that amount was presented to Bobanick. As David said, “The Power of One, the Power of Rotary ... little did Norm Hillis realize what he founded back 20 years ago when he asked people to plant an extra row of food in their gardens for the hungry. Today, that program is Rotary First Harvest, striving to gather and distribute over 10 million pounds of food to families in Washington.”

In addition, everyone in attendance got a chance to get in on the Feinstein Match. Mary asked every Rotarian to put a dollar or two on the table and when it was all over 77 Rotarians had contributed $311 more dollars to Rotary First Harvest. Way to go, BBRC!
