RI President Rattakul’s Visit to Vancouver
Rotary International President Bhichai Rattakul’s only visit to the Pacific Northwest will take place on Wednesday, March 12, 2003, in two spots in Canada — a luncheon in Sydney on Vancouver Island and a dinner in Vancouver that evening.
The luncheon is slated for the Mary Winspear Centre in Sydney at noon. The dinner will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Westin Bayshore Hotel in Vancouver. Coordinating the President’s visit is PDG John Nelson, who reports that Rotarian Rattakul “is an outstanding speaker, and I urge you take advantage of this opportunity to meet and hear him.
Governor Rosemary has asked me to convey the registration details of the President’s visit. Because Rotarians from four (5020, 5030, 5040, 5050) districts are being invited to these two events, the organizers are requesting that tickets be ordered through Rotary Clubs instead of by individuals. Ticket Order Forms are available on the District 5030 website. The reservation fees are $20 for Sydney, and $55 for the Westin Bayshore.
Since the Westin Bayshore venue is an evening function, most of our attendees may prefer to stay overnight in Vancouver following the dinner instead of returning home very late at night. You may call the Westin Bayshore directly for guest room reservations at (604) 691-6926. Another option is the Blue Horizon, a 10 minute walk from the Bayshore (Ph (604) 688-1411).
Transportation:
Amtrak is a nice option for those not wishing to drive alone or carpool. There are two northbound trains that would arrive in Vancouver well before the 6:00 p.m. dinner at the Westin.
Train #510 7:45 a.m. Departs Seattle 11:40 a.m. Arrives Vancouver
Train #8948 10:45 a.m. Departs Seattle 2:15 p.m. Arrives Vancouver.
There are 4 daily southbound trains from Vancouver at 8:45 am, 12:30 p.m., 5:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m.
If there are enough of us going from our district, Marti Anderson will look into the possibility of arranging for a bus in Vancouver to meet us at the train station for transport to the Westin. Since tickets are on a first-come-first-served basis, I urge you to expedite and get your ticket orders in by December 15 at the latest. Thank you.
Sincerely,
PDG John Nelson
